Not bad for a shy little girl who was born to a music teacher father and dancer mother in the unglamorous Sichuan province of the Republic of China on 10 October 1970. Bai found an escape through acting at school and, at the age of 14, was enlisted in the People's Liberation Army to serve as an entertainer, singing and dancing for the troops for three years. Always something of a rebel, she clashed with the authorities, finding herself accused of insubordination for using tobacco and alcohol. She was spotted by a Chinese movie director while working for a Beijing theatre company. She soon became a big hit in her native land, breaking taboos with photos of her in Chinese magazines frequently featuring her with whole shoulder and upper breasts exposed.
She temporarily moved to New York in 1991 to attend New York University's film department as a visiting scholar, but later obtained a special visa that allowed her to remain in the United States until she became a citizen in 1999. After her 1997 role as a Chinese lawyer defending American journalist Richard Gere in Red Corner, she became a persona non grata in China, who banned the movie. Fortunately for us in the decadent West, it's meant we've got to see a whole lot more of the beautiful Bai Ling than just her upper breasts. She has to have some of the longest, perkiest celebrity nipples we've seen in a very long time!
